According to the Unified Police Department, officers were called to a home near Twilight and Scorpio Drive shortly before 10:30 p.m. after receiving a distressing emergency call. Authorities say Kaylene made the call herself, reporting that a weapon had been used inside the home. During the call, gunshots could reportedly be heard before the line suddenly went silent. When officers and emergency responders arrived at the scene, they discovered Floyd and Kaylene inside the home with fatal injuries.

Two other adults were found outside the residence and were later identified as Kaylene’s adult children. Both had suffered gunshot wounds but were transported to a hospital where they are currently reported to be in stable condition. Investigators believe Floyd was the only person who discharged the firearm during the incident. Authorities say the tragic sequence likely began when Floyd shot his wife, then his stepchildren, before taking his own life. No other individuals were inside the home at the time.

The tragedy has deeply affected the Kearns community. Friends and neighbors describe Floyd and Kaylene as long-time members of the community who were devoted to their family and known for their kindness. Their sudden loss has left many struggling to process the heartbreaking events.

Community members are now coming together to support the surviving family and honor the couple’s lives. Plans are underway for a candlelight vigil, where friends, neighbors, and loved ones can gather to mourn, remember, and pay tribute to Floyd and Kaylene.
